Just saw an infomercial for some home soda (aka soft drink) maker called the SodaStream. They sell it as “eco-friendly” (cut down on all those soda cans) and “pocketbook-friendly” (you can make your own sodas for a fraction of the cost of store-bought sodas). They also sell it as “healthy” because the regular sodas contain no HFCS, the diet sodas contain no aspartame, and the plastic bottles contain no BPA. (EDIT: Now it has come out that “BPA-free” is as fraudulent a claim as “zero grams trans fat”. In a nutshell, SodaStream’s plastic bottles are as free of BPA as Dorito’s are free of trans fat.)

What they DON’T tell you is that the soda concentrates contain sodium benzoate. In addition, the diet soda concentrates contain sucralose which is just as bad as – if not worse than – aspartame.

And their selling point? “Turn ordinary tap water into delicious sodas!” Yes. Turn “ordinary” tap water – full of fluoride and Big Pharma drugs – into “nutritious” tap water full of sodium benzoate and sometimes sucralose. Yes. Kill yourselves and your kids in the name of the environment.
